How to migrate from mccPILOTLOG to CrewLounge PILOTLOG

Modified on Wed, 21 Dec 2022 at 01:00 PM

This article describes the different steps you need to take to migrate from mccPILOTLOG to CrewLounge PILOTLOG.

Step 1 - Register

Create your free user account with CrewLounge AERO.  With a single account, you can use all apps of the CrewLounge AERO suite.

You can skip this step in the event that you already have a CrewLounge AERO user account for another app, like CrewLounge CONNECT.

For new customers, register here

It's important that you review and complete your User Profile.  Login to My CrewLounge (Login here) to view and edit your profile and your privacy settings.

Step 2 - License

CrewLounge AERO is a subscription based SaaS (Software-as-a-Service). We do not offer “pay once, use forever” lifetime licenses, as was the case with the legacy app. However, pilots who have paid for mccPILOTLOG can switch to CrewLounge PILOTLOG and grab a 50% discount!

Transfer License

The button "Transfer my License" that you find on the mccPILOTLOG desktop application does no longer work.

How to get the discount

The pricing for CrewLounge PILOTLOG is listed on our website (here).  To grab your discount, follow the instructions from this article (here).

You can actually skip this step for now.  You don't need any paid license to import your records from mccPILOTLOG into CrewLounge PILOTLOG.  You can start with the free Student Edition license and continue with Step 3 and 4 below.

Step 3 - Transfer Database

This page appears in mccPILOTLOG desktop application. Click the "Transfer my Database" button.

If the above page does not show, go to Tools - Helpdesk and click the "Convert to Version 5" link:

The process generates 2 or 3 files:

1) mccPILOTLOG_V5.2_database.json

This file contains all database records.  Click the Select File button in the Import records from mccPILOTLOG section in My CrewLounge - Apps - PILOTLOG (login here).

In case you want to redo this import, you must first reset your cloud database.  Follow this procedure to reset your Database.

2) mccPILOTLOG_images.zip  (optional)

Images (Endorsement Signatures + Pilot Pictures) that you made with mccPILOTLOG are zipped into 1 ZIP file.  Depending on the number of images you have created, the size of the ZIP file can go over 200 MB.

Go to the Tools - Import Old Flight Data page of the new logbook software CrewLounge PILOTLOG and browse the ZIP file. The images will then be relinked with the flights and pilots that you had imported with the json.

All images will upload to the CrewLounge Cloud Server, from where the images will also synch to your mobile phone or tablet. Depending on the number of images and the internet connection speed, this process may take a bit of time. You may want to delay this import until you have fast internet connection.

3) Carreer_Dates.txt

This file contains a number of dates that you had logged with mccPILOTLOG and that cannot be transferred automatically.  We drop the dates in a Text file for easy reference.

Go to the Settings page of the new logbook software CrewLounge PILOTLOG and reinsert the dates.  This again can be done anytime later.

Step 4 - Install

Download and install the new software on the desktop (Windows / Mac) and mobile app (iOS / Android) :

Download here

Important Note for Mac OS

mccPILOTLOG uses Mono Framework 3.2, whereas CrewLounge PILOTLOG requires the latest Mono Framework 5.10

Installing Mono Framework 5.10 for CrewLounge PILOTLOG will lead to mccPILOTLOG no longer launching! Make sure you have transferred your license (step 2 above) and exported your database (step 3 above) prior to installing CrewLounge PILOTLOG.

If you need mccPILOTLOG running again, simply reinstall Mono Framework 3.2 (download here). mccPILOTLOG should then work back to normal.
